All parents of attending students and teachers are automatically members of the School Council. The Executive is elected annually at the October meeting, with the chairperson sitting two years when possible.

Role of the School Council
- To ensure parents are informed about District and Alberta Learning initiatives.
- To involve parents in their children's education (at all levels of the School District, and Alberta Learning).
Academy Parent’s Foundation
The Academy Parent’s Foundation is a non-profit organization that is maintained as an entity separate from the School Council to qualify for casinos or other fundraising activities that require incorporation. An elected executive member takes responsibility for related issues, and reports to the School Council Chairperson.

The parent foundation supports a wide range of activities, contributing to the success of the school community. The Academy at King Edward was established in 1992 as a segregated site for students who meet district criteria for Learning Strategies. This Grade 3 to 12 program expanded the continuum of services available to students in Edmonton Public Schools. The Academy provides specialized programming in a safe, secure, atmosphere that is designed to meet the academic, social-emotional and classroom learning skill needs of the students.
